Firedance Website is Back!

Founded by Charlene Crough in 2005 in Toronto, Firedance is a unique collective of drummers, musicians, dancers, artists, and conscious individuals who honor our connection to Spirit in our music, and events. Firedance has grown from a small handful of friends drumming around bonfires to a large community spanning across Ontario. We perform and host workshops at community events, and host an awesome summer music festival called Firedance Drum Festival in August. Firedance holds regular open jams, thoughout the winter months, check out our event calendar for our 2013 dates!

How it All Began….

Firedance drum circle started as a small circle of friends who would gather together to learn and share the newest rhythms, we gathered in living rooms, basements, backyards, at parks, and at summer festivals in the first year.

As the winter settled in for the second year, in response to frustration over lack of space to practice, Charlene took the reins and created Firedance drum circle, organizing our first official jam at Soundwave Rehearsals and Recordings in December 2006 in Scarborough.
The name Firedance comes from Charlene’s love of dancing and drumming around bonfires, and the beauty, and freedom that firedancing represents. Firedancing is an elemental dance and it becomes an existential relationship between the drummers, the dance, and the fire.

As a dancer loses their sense of attachments to their everyday concerns, becoming entranced in the motion, the beat of the drums, and their own heartbeat; inspiration, truths, and creative physical expression can be revealed.

A form of meditation in itself, the firedance can be a healing, liberating, spiritual experience.

Many of our members have connected to one another through the Ontario summer festival scene and share a mutual love of dancing and drumming around the fire.
